Why We Started This

We are avid backcountry campers.

Here is our story!!

We are avid backcountry campers and have always loved exploring
less-travelled roads and getting off the beaten path. We started out tent
camping, but as our adventures grew from weekends to two weeks, then a month and eventually a few months at a time, we realized a tent was no longer suited to the adventures we wanted to have.

We wanted something small, capable, and rugged that could go wherever
our Jeep could go, while still giving us the comforts that would allow us to
stay out longer—a fridge, kitchen, storage, power, and a comfortable place to sleep. We loved the simplicity and shape of a teardrop trailer, which led us to Gnome Homes Inc., a Canadian company that allowed us to build a custom trailer around the way we actually camp.

Being able to choose our layout, features, and storage meant we
weren’t trying to fit our adventures into someone else’s trailer. We were
building a trailer around our adventures. And then we put it to the test.

Our Gnome Home has travelled across North America with us for six
months at a time, through heat, rain, wind, cold, and everything in between.
We’ve taken it on highways, gravel roads, and rough backcountry roads—often wondering, “Are we really taking the trailer down this road?” It has given us the confidence to explore the less-taken roads.

Our favourite part is that it didn’t change the way we adventure—it
allowed us to adventure longer. It has become our home away from home, giving us the comforts we need without taking away from the feeling of being out there. Another thing that has surprised us is the Gnome Home community. We’ve become part of a group of owners who share adventures, exchange tips, ask questions, troubleshoot, share ideas, and follow along with where everyone is taking their little homes. We love seeing how others have customized their
Gnome Homes and the incredible places they take them.

And the relationship doesn’t end when the sale is complete. Cees, the owner, remains available when we have questions, genuinely cares about where our adventures take us, and follows along with our travels. To us, that’s what sets Gnome Home apart. You’re not simply buying a trailer—you become part of a community of people who love getting outside, exploring, and taking their Gnome Homes wherever the adventure leads.

Every summer, we look at a map and find somewhere new to explore. We
pack up our Gnome Home, hook it up to the Jeep, and head out. Sometimes we know
exactly where we’re going, and sometimes the best adventures happen when we simply take the road that looks interesting.

We love the freedom it gives us, the places it has taken us, and the
adventures that come with it. Most of all, we love our Gnome Home. It’s our
little home away from home, our basecamp, our kitchen, our bedroom, and what
makes it possible for us to keep looking at a map and saying:

“Let’s
go explore there.”
